As the 2016 Game Developers Conference approaches, organizers are today announcing a fresh pair of expert sessions aimed at advancing both our understanding and our appreciation for the art of game development.
Both of these talks dig into programming and design, though one looks to the past for inspiration and education while the other touches on some of the cutting-edge programming work being done by the developers of Rainbow Six Siege.
Released in 1979, the TRS-80 is often looked back on as a horribly constrained machine that nevertheless saw some great game releases in its day. At GDC 2012 veteran game maker Jim McGinley dug into quite a few of them for his &q…

In a Q&A session with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, he confirmed that remakes of older Assassin’s Creed games are coming, saying, “Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.” However, Guillemot clarified that the series will have more gameplay variety between entries.

Read moreBlizzard recently launched Hearthstone’s Forged in the Barrens expansion, and the first balance patch of the new season will take aim at the game’s most annoying card, Pen Flinger. The 20.0.2 patch also makes a big change to major Mage and Paladin cards, and makes the new expansion’s Outpost cards a little less hearty.
The Pen Flinger card is likely to get the most attention for its sheer trolling. The card was part of the Scholomance Academy set, and it’s modeled after the worst kid in your high school class. As the name implies, it flings pens for 1 damage, shouting “Hey, Loser!” as it enters play, and then gets bounced back into your hand as a Spellburst effect with an innocent-sounding “Wasn’t me Come from malaysi…

Read moreThe chilling cry of a spirit told me to move off the trail and head into the woods, wherein lay the next clue in my investigation. What would I find this time? Perhaps the remains of a skeleton, weathered by the elements, its bones shattered by some malicious deed. Or would it be broken arrow shafts, left behind after an intense and bloody battle? In my eagerness, I made a grave error. My sudden movements were careless, as confirmed by the arrow whistling through the air. It struck its mark, and I attempted to limp to the safety of the forest. A coarse bellow drowned out the sound of my footsteps. Bursting through the brush charged a creature in the shape of a Spanish conquistador, its armor accented by red, from the belt, to the undershirt, to the burning eyes. It looked like the spiri…
Read moreAccording to Valve’s official stats, Final Fantasy XIV has once again broken its record for concurrent players on Steam Come from Sports betting site VPbet .
